Upfest 2017, Europe’s largest, free, street art & graffiti festival will take place next weekend in South Bristol over the 29th -31st July.

Bigger and better year on year,  this year attracts over 300 artists from 30 countries and across the UK, painting 35 venues throughout Bedminster & Southville, Bristol.  That’s 30,000sqft of live street art in amongst a host of food stalls, Live music and activities over numerous venues.

This year we’re getting into the Upfest spirit and spreading the Bristol love with a little giveaway. Share this article on your social media with the hashtag #bemmiegiveaway and automatically go in the draw to win a copy of our Bristol Poster

The festival route is the backdrop to my daily commute and I have watched as spectacular, intricate, beautiful and awe-inspiring pieces of art appear, develop, edit and ultimately disappear year on year with new equally awe-inspiring colourful pieces.

Scaffolding and cherry pickers are already taking up residence beside some of the larger wall spaces this week. And much-admired pieces that greeted me every morning for the past year get covered in a fresh lick of paint in readiness for the work ahead.

last year the organisers of the festival teamed up with the much loved British institution, Mr Men Little Miss to celebrate their 45th anniversary. And introduced us to nine representations of the Mr Men series plus a specially designed “Mr Graff” character created by local graffiti artists Cheo.

This year’s offering will be equally special and dear to a lot of Bristolian’s hearts as Upfest will celebrate the 40th Birthday of  Aardman’s famous character Morph. This Bristol animated veteran will be reimaged in his street art persona by Cheo and will be live painted over the festival weekend.

It’s not hard to see why artists come from far and wide to showcase their new designs. The share amount of street art across this beautiful city never ceases to astound and surprise.

I can’t wait to see what the 2017 festival will offer up.
